"Welcome to Arc Liberty 2049
Don't get lost in the city"
Arc Liberty city of the future and city of nothing.
Arc Liberty is the second LP release from Manchester based Alternative act MyLyricalMind (aka Matt Wood).
An album centred around living in a dystopian fictional city of the future. The hopes, the fears... the highs and the lows of what the future will bring.
A stark contrast from the more subtle singer songwriter vibes of Matt's well received debut album Bittersweet Serenity, Arc Liberty is synth heavy, with mixes of abstract drums, ethereal pads, instrumentals and more reverb that you could fit into a cathedral.
" When I started writing this album I set out originally to create a soundtrack for a film, however this evolved into this almost concept like album around the fall of a city in the future. I didn't want this to be another album of singer-songwriter ballads.
Of course it's not just an album about a city, the whole LP is a journey through emotion itself. It's a solitary project with themes of loneliness and isolation too. Matt wrote and produced the entire album over the course of the last 2 years. Throughout there are obvious hints of influence from the likes of M83, The National and various lo-fi and chillwave artists.
" Throughout the entire writing process for this release I was listening to a lot of lo-fi and hip-hop inspired instrumentals, but I was also listening to a wide variety of electronic chill music from the likes of Jonsi, Tycho and Shalou."
Arc Liberty is a 14 track album with variety of upbeat and downcast instrumentals (Apex, Leaving old town, Dance with the dead) to more catchier poppy tracks (Feel alive, Soundtrack).
While each song varies in tone there is an overall sense that this is an album centred around breaking down and putting the pieces back together. "While writing this album a lot has changed in my life, i've seen love, loss, happiness and sadness in their purest form. 'Pieces' to me is a song which encapsulates this" says Wood.
Vocally this album is a big departure from Matt's debut. The overall vocal performance is raw and unforgiving. The use of a Vocoder and filters is prevalent throughout, especially in songs like 'Days ended" and 'The world is a mirror' . "This wasn't going to be an album of polished vocals and harmonies, I wanted the music itself to do the talking" says Wood.
Over the years Matt has collaborated with a number of different producers including Malcolm Carson (IYEARA, Tape the radio, Athlete) and made a conscious decision early on in the recording process to go it alone for this release. "Arc Liberty was all in my head and I wanted it to be a personal journey throughout the entire process, I felt that working with other producers and writers would have taken the project in a completely different direction).
MyLyricalMind's style has taken a number of different pathways with this release. It can't be pigeonholed into one genre, it touches both Alternative, electronic and pop in different ways. There is a stark change in Matt and how he views himself as a musician. Arc Liberty is a clear picture of someone losing themselves in the city and finding redemption.

"MyLyricalMind may just be on the cusp of stardom; bringing a raw yet delicate tone"
- Right Chord Music
" 'Drop Me A Line' is a very good song for starters, and when you add Wood's voice which is distinctive and highly likable, and produce it in such a way as this, then a good song becomes even better."
The sound of confusion
